But if you've spent any time in the 2020s watching a Steelers tackle get turned into a turnstile twice a season, you read this trade differently. The best pass rusher in the AFC North just left the AFC North. This lands at the exact moment Pittsburgh finally has an offensive line worth talking about.

For years, "protect the quarterback" was this franchise's unsolved problem. Jared Verse, the 2024 Defensive Rookie of the Year, a 24-year-old building block entering a contract year. And a 2027 first-round pick, dropped into a draft class scouts are calling one of the two or three best quarterback hauls ever. The Browns didn't get worse in any way that helps Pittsburgh long-term. They got younger, and they got richer in the exact currency that matters most over the next eighteen months.

That's the tell. Cleveland is reportedly leaning toward Deshaun Watson on a roster nobody's confusing for a contender, sitting on extra draft capital, openly built to drop a premium 2027 rookie into the lineup.
